Green Hills AEA Teacher, Alternative Program - Council Bluffs Juvenile Detention Center in Council Bluffs, Iowa

Green Hills Area Education Agency is looking to fill a Teacher, Alternative Program for our Council Bluffs Juvenile Detention Center position. This position includes a hiring incentive.

Hiring incentive:

  • $500 to be paid after 120 days of employment.
  • $1,500 to be paid at the end of the first year.
  • $1,500 to be paid at the end of the second year.
  • $1,500 to be paid at the end of the third year.

Qualifications:Iowa teaching license with a special education endorsement required. K-12 Instructional Strategist I or II endorsement and classroom experience is preferred. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential function satisfactorily. Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

The teacher will be responsible for assisting students in classroom in the areas of instruction, behavioral, or emotional needs based on each individual student.

Promote a positive learning climate for students of all ages in the classroom.

Establish and maintain community-school relationships to achieve and maintain continuity of the classroom for students being served.

Facilitate development and monitor measurable objectives for individual education plans (IEP) as needed.

Communicate regularly with parents, staff, community agencies,and students about progress when appropriate.

Regular and timely attendance as scheduled is required

Develop and distribute progress reports as required, recording progress in the student's IEP when appropriate.

Complete training and use, when necessary, Crisis Prevention Techniques (CPI).

Develop lesson plans appropriate for each individual student.

Assist in the development of strategies that compliment the efforts of general education teachers for inclusive classrooms/settings.

Collaborate with district and agency staff and other community staff members on the status of instruction for students in the program as they transition in/out of the program.

Assign and schedule daily duties of paraprofessionals in the classroom.
