Structural Construction Field Coordinator

Mission

The Structural Field Coordinator supports the delivery of the project by assisting and liaising with various subcontractors, procurement, and scheduling, communicating with the Superintendent and other stakeholders, ensuring on-time delivery of project plans. Specific experience working on bridges is a must.

Main Responsibilities

Health & Safety

o Promote a strong safety culture by participating actively in Health and Safety Planning processes, Toolbox Talks, Safety Meetings and Stand-Downs, Site Inspections, and Incident Investigations

o Actively and progressively acquire knowledge of and become well-versed in MIP’s Health and Safety Policies and Procedures, as well as the Alberta OHS Act, OHS Code, and OHS Regulations.

o Ensure trades/subcontractors/workers adhere to Health and Safety Policies, Safe Work Procedures, and best practices.

o In conjunction with the Superintendent, General Superintendent, develop comprehensive Safe Work Procedures consisting of a Work Method Statement, Job Hazard Analysis, and all pertinent supporting documentation (Safety Data Sheets, Lift Plans, Construction Engineering Drawings, etc). Ensure that the plans are reviewed and approved by the General Superintendent, Health and Safety Coordinator, and Segment Manager, and are reviewed, discussed and signed off by all MIP staff and craft involved in the work, prior to the start of work.

o Be knowledgeable and actively involved in MIP Ground Disturbance Procedures to ensure that procedures are followed and all necessary measures are taken to mitigate any impacts to nearby utilities.

• Environmental

o Be familiar and knowledgeable of Environmental Performance Requirements outlined in the Project Agreement.

o Be knowledgeable of MIP’s Environmental Construction Operation (ECO) Plan, including but not limited to procedures for erosion and sediment control, fueling, disposal of water and slurry, soil management, protection of wildlife, noise and dust control.

o Assist in development of site-specific Erosion and Sediment Control plans with the Environmental team.

o Coordination the implementation and maintenance of Environmental Control measures.

Weekly Duties

• Partake in Three-Week Look Ahead Meetings with General Superintendent and Field Coordinators

• Submit PO Requisitions for ordering materials as required.

• Attend and partake in weekly Subcontractor Progress Meetings

• Attend Weekly Operations Meetings

• Safety Inspections – minimum 1 per week

• Safety Opportunities – minimum 1 per week

• Coordinate and work interfaces as required with other MIP teams, eg. Utilities, Civil, Facilities, etc.

• Ensure files are kept up to date and maintain within filing system on Sharepoint.

Main Responsibilities

Quality

o Ensure workmanship, materials and processes are in accordance with Project Quality standards.

o Promote a strong Quality culture amongst crew members and subcontractors, that is committed to the “doing it right the first time”.

o Become well-versed in project requirements, by reading and understanding relevant sections of the Project Agreement, Codes and Standards, Inspection and Test Plans, Detailed Design Drawings, Shop Drawings, Manufacturer’s Product Specifications, etc.

o Actively work with Superintendents and General Foremen to ensure to ensure proper interpretation and application of drawings, specifications, and Inspection and Test Plans (ITPs).

o Coordinate and schedule inspections as required by the ITP (eg. surface preparation, rebar inspections, etc.)

o Proactively identify any deficiencies and ensure Non-Conformance Reports are promptly submitted by the Field Coordinator.

o Ensure any Non-Conformances are promptly rectified in accordance with the approved corrective action plan.

o Maintain electronic set of as-built drawings for operation assigned.

Planning/Coordination

o Partake in Constructability Reviews for interim design package submittals, and proactively identify any issues that may become a hindrance to execution on site.

o Partake in Global Schedule Review meetings, understand key project milestones and communicate these milestones to crew members. Ensure all aspects of planning and coordination are performed with these key milestones in mind, understanding that time is of the essence.

o Actively participate in daily coordination and readiness reviews with the Structures team

o Coordinate all construction activities within assigned scope of work, and ensure the timely and efficient allocation of resources, inspections, and layouts.

o Complete quantity takeoffs and maintain an up-date record of quantities for progress tracking purposes.

Daily Duties

• Complete ParaDIM Daily Log for assigned operations.

• Coordinate and attend direct and independent testing and inspections as required, in conjunction with Field Coordinator, Quality Coordinator, and/or third party agency (eg. concrete surface preparation, rebar inspections, formwork inspections, post-pour inspections, etc.)

• Coordinate all survey needs as required, including layout, grade, plumbness checks, pre-pour survey checks, post-pour as-builts, etc.

• Coordinate inspection, testing, submittal of documentation and completion of quality checklists as part of the Inspection and Test Plans.

• Complete Vehicle Inspections on ParaDIM prior to each use of MIP Pool Vehicle.

• Coordinate concrete placements as required by issuing pour notifications (minimum 48 hours notice), scheduling concrete pumps as required, scheduling concrete and concrete testers.

• Maintain daily log of ready mix concrete (by mix), operated hourly crane usage (wet rentals), dump trucks, and concrete trucks on Sharepoint.

Profile

Demonstrated understanding of basic engineering and construction concepts, practices and procedures

• Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Construction Management or similar field from an accredited institution

• 2-5 years' demonstrated self-performing experience in construction field, on large, complex, heavy civil transportation projects (roads and highways, bridges, bridge and tunnel, rail and transit)
