JOB SUMMARY:

This person will provide technical leadership, direction, and support for the Chemical engineering and product development activities necessary to support long-range goals as well as short-term performance objectives. The manager must establish and maintain strong, proactive relationships with technical resource groups within and outside of Magna Exteriors – Engineered Glass. The ability to teach and institutionalize comprehensive problem solving in a technically challenging and fast-moving business environment through a participative management approach is essential for success in this role.

ESSENTIALJOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Demonstrate, teach, and apply principles of engineering, technical problem solving, and reporting of technical development.

  • Develop and communicate long-term strategic goals and translate them into specific performance objectives and action plans.

  • Coordinate and develop engineering team members while remaining an active contributor in technical areas.

  • Accountable for attaining Chemical team objectives as well as establishing and controlling departmental resource requirements and budgets.

  • Develop, establish and maintain procedures, standards of workmanship and reporting formats for technical work.

  • Lead and support efforts to identify and eliminate non-value-added operations and improve manufacturing effectiveness and efficiency.

  • Monitor technical advancements within MagnaExteriors – Engineered Glassas well as outside the organization that could potentially impact processes or products.

  • Participate in customer and supplier technical problem-solving as circumstances require.

  • Build Chemical team skills through proactive recommendations on in-house and outside training and development opportunities for each team member.

  • Work cooperatively with other departments (e.g. Operations, PICS, Product Development, Marketing, etc.) to ensure that engineering objectives and day-to-day activities are supporting the organization’s needs.

  • Provide leadership for process, product and equipment cost analysis that contribute to improved performance.

  • Assists in development and implementation of quality procedures, work instructions and standards. Understands MagnaExteriors – Engineered Glass’squality policy and assures compliance with ISO/IATF systems.

ENVIRONMENTAL, HEALTH AND SAFETY RESPONSIBILITIES

Performs all work in compliance with Magna Exteriors – Engineered Glass Safety and Environmental policies and procedures as well as all Federal, State and local laws. Understand the importance of conformance with all safety and environmental procedures of the environmental and safety management systems, including emergency response.

  • Report any unsafe condition or action to his or her supervisor.

  • Report any work-related injury to his or her supervisor within 8 hours.

  • Never operate a machine or equipment until trained in the operating procedures, hazards, and safeguards and has been assigned to do so by the employer.

  • Never remove, displace, destroy, or carry off any safeguard or interfere with the use by any other person.

  • Use required personal protective equipment or devices where required.

  • Understand your responsibility to the environmental programs, including ISO14001. Understand the actual or potential environmental consequences, when deviating from specified work instructions.

  • Ensures pre-start health and safety reviews are conducted in accordance with Magna standards on any new or modified equipment which contains a safety device.

  • Lead Exteriors – Engineered Glass ergonomics committee and ensure compliance on new modified equipment to Magna Ergonomics standards.

  • Ensure reporting supervisors are held accountable for the safety of their associates.

  • Follows and implements duties including those specified under the occupational safety & health administration (OSHA) and the Michigan Occupational Safety & Health Administration (MIOSHA).

  • Seeks out and corrects unsafe acts and hazardous conditions, ensuring all safety and non-safety plant rules and regulations are followed.

  • Ensures adherence to established quality, safety and housekeeping standards.

  • Reviews and adheres to all health and safety, environmental, and quality standards, policies and procedures.

  • Responds immediately to items brought to his/her attention with respect to hazards, defects, incidents or non-compliance issues.

  • Attends environmental, health, and safety training as required.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in engineering with 5 or more years of related experience or equivalent engineering work background.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with a demonstrated capability to communicate effectively at all levels of the organization.

  • Proven leadership skills in a participative work environment with strong emphasis on teaching these skills to others.

  • Ability to direct and lead others through daily assignments, special projects, and root cause analysis.

  • Thorough knowledge of and ability to implement SPC and experiment design concepts.

  • Thorough knowledge of glass fabrication and thin film deposition as well as electronic performance of functional thin and thick films.

  • Ability to develop, implements, maintains and support systems as they pertain to manufacturing operations.
