As a Sr Automation Engineer here at Honeywell Aerospace Technologies, you will play a crucial role in designing, developing, implementing, and maintaining automation solutions for our factories. You will work closely with cross-functional teams to understand process requirements and develop innovative solutions to optimize those processes. Your expertise in automation technologies and programming languages will be instrumental in creating efficient and reliable automation systems. You will report directly to our Director of Advanced Manufacturing Engineering in Minneapolis, Minnesota and you'll work out of our Minneapolis, Minnesota location.

In this role, you will impact the efficiency and productivity of our internal factory operations by implementing automation solutions and by supporting and modernizing existing factory equipment. You will collaborate with stakeholders to understand their needs and work with a team to design customized automation systems and upgrades to achieve our manufacturing goals. Your work will result in improved operational efficiency, reduced costs, and enhanced safety in Honeywell’s Ring Laser Gyro and Tactical Guidance Products factories.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Design, develop, and implement automation solutions for the Minneapolis factories

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand process requirements

  • Create efficient and reliable automation systems using programming languages and automation technologies

  • Support existing solutions and design / implement innovative solutions for industrial operations that may include: Industrial PC’s (hardware, operating systems, peripherals, PLC’s, Motion Control, Machine Vision – continuous inspection / defect inspection, Instrumentation – Pressure, Flow, Temperature, Level, Weight, Speed

  • Test and troubleshoot automation systems to ensure proper functionality

  • Provide technical support and guidance to clients during the implementation phase

  • Stay updated with the latest automation technologies and industry trends

U.S. PERSON REQUIREMENT

Due to compliance with U.S. export control laws and regulations, candidate must be a U.S. Person, which is defined as, a U.S. citizen, a U.S. permanent resident, or have protected status in the U.S. under asylum or refugee status or have the ability to obtain an export authorization.

YOU MUST HAVE

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in a technical discipline such as Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Computer Science

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in automation engineering or a related field

WE VALUE

  • Master's degree in Automation Engineering or a related field

  • Experience with PLC programming and HMI/SCADA systems

  • Knowledge of industrial communication protocols (e.g., Modbus, OPC)

  • Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, C#, C++, or Java

  • Proficiency in Robotic Programming (FANUS, Roboguide, etc.) and/or PLC Programming (Studio 5000)

  • Strong knowledge of automation technologies and systems

  • Familiarity with robotics and machine vision systems

  • Manufacturing environment experience and best practices such as: RCCA / Lean / Six Sigma

  • Quickly and accurately identifying subtle interrelationships and patterns among a variety of problems and issues (process and data correlation of cause/effect across value stream).

  • Hands on work ethic. Initiative and ownership of responsibilities and actions.

  • Ability to partner and collaborate well with team members.

  • Conveying information with clarity and directness, ensuring the message is understood across diverse teams.

  • Ability to balance priorities in daily tasks and strategic projects.
