Job Summary:

The Mechanical Engineer works in project teams to provide a broad range of mechanical engineering expertise designing complex analytical instrumentation systems and components for field application of scientific analytical equipment. This position is responsible for all mechanical designs including packaging, machined, and fabricated components for vacuum and inlet assemblies, electronic enclosures, and mounting systems. This position includes involvement in prototyping and interfacing with scientific and manufacturing teams.

Responsibilities include planning and tracking your own work schedules and the following:

  • Product Development (CAD Design)

  • Rapid Prototyping

  • Thermal, Fluid and Structural Analysis Simulations (preferable)

  • BSME/MSME required from an accredited institution.

  • Minimum 8+ years of relevant experience in mechanical design and product development required.

  • Working knowledge and practical/hands on experience with assembly of electro-mechanical components and systems preferable

  • Experience with SolidWorks required; experience with PDM tools a plus.

  • Experience with thermal, fluid and structural analysis using simulation software a plus.

  • Proficient with Design for Manufacturability (DFM) practices.

  • Experience directing and working with Industrial Designers a plus.

  • Experience with machining practices and what parts can/cannot be created in a machine shop.

  • Experience with sheet metal design practices including strength and tolerancing.

  • Experience with injection molding practices to include draft angles, texture, materials, etc. a plus.

  • Interface with suppliers during product development to expedite and coordinate part deliveries and resolve design issues with suppliers.

  • Provide ongoing engineering support for production instruments.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Proven analytical and problem-solving skills.

  • High energy, proactive orientation; comfortable in a dynamic, entrepreneurial atmosphere.

  • Occasional domestic travel (< 10%) to support project work may be required.

Applicants must be either a U.S. citizen, U.S. national, legal permanent resident, asylee, refugee or must be eligible to apply for and obtain the appropriate export control license from the U.S. Departments of State or Commerce.
